210 Students Poisoned by MBG, Bogor City Government Declares Outbreak Status

The Bogor City Government has declared an Extraordinary Event (KLB) status after hundreds of students were poisoned after allegedly consuming free nutritious meals (MBG). The city government has asked affected students to immediately seek treatment at the hospital.
“Due to this incident, the Bogor City Government has declared an Extraordinary Event (KLB) status. On Friday, we declared an KLB so that anyone affected, suspected of poisoning, should seek treatment at the hospital,” said Bogor Mayor Dedie A.

The determination of the KLB, said Dedie, is needed to follow up on the handling of poisoning victims. He said the medical costs are free.

“Yesterday, Sunday, I and the Head of BGN saw (poisoning victims) at the Regional Public Hospital. Actually, we encourage the children to go home immediately, it’s okay, the important thing is to recover, until they are healthy. God willing, the Bogor city government will fund the health problem,” he added.

Previously, Dedie revealed the results of laboratory tests related to the mass poisoning incident that befell hundreds of students receiving the MBG program. Based on the test results carried out by the Bogor City Labkesda, two types of bacteria were found to cause poisoning, namely Escherichia coli (E. coli) and Salmonella.

“From the results of the lab tests that we have conducted for the past 4 days or so, the results show that several ingredients (food) contain E. coli and Salmonella bacteria,” said Dedie.

The two types of bacteria were detected in the barbecue-seasoned fried egg menu and stir-fried bean sprouts, two dishes provided by the food provider SPPG Bina Insani. This menu was served to 210 students who then experienced symptoms of poisoning.
